Motta is Gallery 302 October guest artist

BRIDGTON – Mixed media artist is Susan Colburn Motta is Gallery 302’s October guest artist.
Motta works in water-based paints, inks and drawing materials, oils, encaustics, printmaking, collage with hand-made and altered or found papers, fibers and other natural and found materials. Her goal is to move materials beyond their original purpose, to push them into new areas of meaning. She is also interested in the relationship between text and image, often using text as image, both in her collages and in the form of artist’s books. Her work is part of several corporate and public collections throughout New England.
“Art is not about making a representation of something, but rather making something that results in a life of its own, that communicates feeling, ideas and experience,” Motta said. “The artist’s goal is to provide the viewer with connections, but also to allow the viewer a personal interpretation of the intent of the work.”
She teaches drawing and design at the University of Southern Maine, and facilitates creativity classes, demos and workshops for arts organizations.
Her work will be shown at Gallery 302, 112 Main St., from Oct. 2 to Nov. 5. Fall gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For information call 207-647-2787 or visit gallery302.com.
