AUGUSTA – Free ME from Lung Cancer’s Save Your Break 5K run/walk will be Saturday, Nov. 6, on the Kennebec River Rail Trail from Augusta to Hallowell and back.
The 5K will be an in-person timed event, on a certified course sanctioned by USA Track & Field. It will operate according to CDC guidelines. There will also be a virtual event for those who can’t join in person.
There will be a $100 cash prize in the live race for the top male and female finishers, and $35 to the top male and female age group winners, with gift cards to Lamey Wellehan for second and third place age groups. An award ceremony will be held at Bateau Brewing in Gardiner immediately after the race.

All proceeds from the event will stay in Maine to support the early lung cancer screening and radon programs.
Free ME from Lung Cancer has found creative ways to raise money to support its programs during the pandemic. Two online auctions were very successful, and the Save Your Breath 2020 5K was held virtually.
“It was another success, albeit not the most fun for the organizer or the participants, but it worked,” said Deb Violette, president, founder and CEO of Free ME from Lung Cancer. “We were so grateful for all of our participants and sponsors. They truly got us through 2020.” Violtette is a 23- year lung cancer survivor.
