AUGUSTA – Kennebec Savings Bank has granted a sponsorship of $5,000 to the upcoming Hallowell Granite Symposium.
The event will take place Sept. 11-19 on the grounds of Stevens Commons in Hallowell, when Maine sculptors will transform granite blocks quarried in Hallowell into works of art inspired by one of the four “Maine200” Bicentennial themes. The public may watch the sculptures develop daily between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visitors will vote for their favorite sculpture and one or more will be permanently placed in the city of Hallowell to commemorate the Maine State Bicentennial.

2020 marked Kennebec Savings Bank’s 150th anniversary, and through all those years the bank has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the communities it serves. Last year, Kennebec Savings Bank’s Community Dividends program donated nearly $1.1 million across the 35 communities they serve.
The Hallowell Granite Symposium is being organized by the city’s Arts & Cultural Committee, Maine Stone Workers Guild, Historic Hallowell Committee and Vision Hallowell. In addition to Kennebec Savings Bank’s generous donation, the symposium is supported by a major grant from the Maine2020 Bicentennial Commission, by the city of Hallowell and by a grant from the Kennebec Valley Tourism Council.
