Five area youth honored by Good Food Council

LEWISTON — The Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn has announced the 2021 ‘Food Charter Champion Award’ winners, who were in a ceremony honored Aug. 3.
The Food Charter Champion Awards are hosted annually by the GFCLA to celebrate the unique contributions of five individuals or groups from the greater Lewiston-Auburn area who lead by example within one, or more, of the five principles of the LA Community Food Charter to create a more vibrant and healthy local food system from farm-to-fork.
New in 2021, the awards exclusively honored and celebrated five individual youth and youth groups, ages 11 to 25 in Androscoggin County. Winners were selected from among nominations made by the public on the GFCLA website this spring.
Winners are:
Koos Mohamed – Leadership
Fardowsa Muktar – Local & Sustainable Agriculture
Gabrielle Brewer – Community Infrastructure
Maryam Omar – Good Food Policy
Lewiston Youth Advisory Council – Food Security
Profiles of the youth winners for their actions that support a healthy local food system can be found on the Good Food Council’s website goodfood4la.org. In addition to a physical award, each winner will receive a $100 Buoy Local Card from Bangor Savings Bank, and a $50 Gift Card to DaVinci’s Eatery.
