Fort Western lecture series continues with ‘Four Forts, One Story’

AUGUSTA — In the seventh, eighth and ninth lectures of the Bicentennial Series sponsored by Fort Western and the Maine Bicentennial Commission, Leith Smith, Leon Cranmer and Linda Novak present “Four Forts, One Story.” The lectures, filmed by CTV-7, can be viewed for free on CTV-7 and from the city of Augusta’s Website, Fort Western’s Website and Fort Western’s Facebook page.

Crammer, Smith and Novak will be at Fort Western, 16 Cony St., from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, for a meet and greet, where they will answer questions about the 18th century forts along the Kennebec. Also present will be James Leamon, a retired Bates College history professor, who headed most of the excavations at Fort Frankfort and Fort Shirley. Admission at Fort Western will be reduced to $6 for the session. Augusta residents and active military personnel, as well as children under 6, are admitted free, as usual.
