CANTON — The town will hold a four-day summer celebration to recognize the 200th anniversary of its incorporation from Thursday, Aug. 5, through Sunday, Aug. 8.
A founders dinner for anyone with a connection to Canton will be held Thursday night. There are no longer any seats available at the dinner.
Friday events include a picnic in the park, nature walk, trolley tour of the town, and Cow Chip Bingo (featuring Snap, the miniature cow). A photo and art exhibit and a quilt exhibit will be held on both Friday and Saturday.
Fright night, a street dance featuring DJ Dave from 8th Street Entertainment will take place at Canton’s Public Boat Launch. Food will be available to buy from Alabama Barbeque and there will be a cash bar. The evening will wrap up with fireworks at 9 p.m. at the ball field.
Saturday’s activities begin at 10 a.m. with crafters, vendors, artisans, and kids activities at the ball field. Artisans and entertainers will be featured every half hour. There will be a parade on Main and School Streets at 11 a.m. and a car show at noon. Nonprofit organizations and local food trucks will have food available to buy all day long.
On Saturday afternoon, there will be a horse and pony show at Boondocks Farm, River Road. At 5 p.m. there will be a barbecue at Conant Acres, followed by live music with The Don Campbell Band, Jason Lee and Amelia Aglow. Food will be available to buy at the Snack Shack and there will be a cash bar.
Sundays events include at pancake breakfast, an old-fashioned church service and a fireman’s muster featuring a number of local fire departments. At 1 p.m., there will be a recognition and remembrance event with volunteers, sponsors and military veterans being acknowledged. Food will be available to buy at the Snack Shack during the events.
The Canton Historical Society Museum and Country Store will be open each for the weekend, and there will be an official bicentennial guest book to sign.

The Summer Celebration has been arranged by the Canton Bicentennial Committee. Committee members Phyllis Ouellette, Loretta Blancato, Brian Keene, Anne Chamberlin, Liz Rothrock, and others have been meeting since 2016 to fundraise and plan.
