Lewiston recipient of excellence in financial reporting award

LEWISTON — The city is once again a recipient of the Government Finance Officers Association of the US & Canada Certificate for Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
Lewiston’s award lauds the city’s comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30. The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the program’s high standards, which include demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” that clearly communicates the municipality’s financial picture.
Upon receiving notification of the award, Mayor Mark Cayer said, “I am very proud of Lewiston’s commitment to full transparency and the provision of excellent financial reporting. Such management of our financial resources certainly sends the message that Lewiston is a great place to live and do business.”
Finance Director Heather Hunter added, “The city of Lewiston was the first Maine municipality to receive this award and has received it for forty-six consecutive years. The Finance Department takes great pride in their hard work and serves as a mentor for other municipalities who wish to go through the award process.”
