RAYMOND — Maine Forest Service forest pathologist Aaron Bergdahl and rorest entomologist Tom Schmeelkfor will lead a tour of Hayden-Murdock Forest from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 22.
The tour will focus on current aspects and concerns regarding the health of and threats to Maine’s oak and pine tree resources. Specific entomology topics covered will include browntail moth, winter moth, gypsy moth and two-lined chestnut borer, among others. Pathogens covered will include root, branch and stem diseases of oak and pine and oak wilt, a disease of oak not yet found in Maine, but one with serious control and management consequences.
