Proceeds will be used to support a variety of local, youth-based programs
AUBURN — Pancakes and Mailhot sausages are once more on the breakfast menu at the upcoming 2017 Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast. The fundraiser, sponsored each year by the Lewiston Auburn Kiwanis Club, will be held from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 4, at St. Dominic Academy, 121 Gracelawn Road.
This is the 59th pancake breakfast sponsored by the local service organization, said Club President Paul Gauvreau. Gauvreau was happy to share that the event will again include children’s activities such as face painting and a visiting balloon artist from Oxford Hills Entertainment. Of course, no event would be complete without a bounce house! “We’re also excited to have an animal exhibit this year, too,” Gauvreau added.
Mr. Drew and His Animals Too! will be a new addition to the line-up of children’s activities. Drew Desjardins has been working with exotic animals for more than 35 years and will have several critters and reptiles on hand to introduce to children between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. “It’s a really unique educational show,” Desjardins said, “using animals I have rescued and rehabilitated.”
Gauvreau said everyone is welcome to this fun community event featuring the club’s signature all-you-can-eat pancakes, Mailhot’s sausage, and all-you-can-drink Starbucks coffee. Guest pancake flippers at this year’s breakfast will include Lewiston Mayor Bob McDonald, Auburn Mayor Jonathan LaBonte, President and CEO of the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Rebecca Swanson Conrad, Sen. Nate Libby, and perhaps another one or two state senators, representatives or mayors.
“The pancake breakfast is truly a wonderful community event,” Gauvreau added, “and it’s held every year, rain or shine!”
Proceeds generated at the breakfast, he said, are used to help fund projects, programs and scholarships for youth throughout Androscoggin County.
Advance tickets are only $5 each and can be purchased at many locations around town.
Tickets also will be available at the door on the day of the event for $6 each.
