WINTHROP — The COVID-19 pandemic might have curtailed the CODA Chorus from regular in-person rehearsals and concert, but the chorus persevered and continued to meet virtually and is now please to present its first-ever virtual concert.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, via Zoom, and will feature traditional and folk songs, poetry and comments from CODA members, followed by a Q&A with Music Director Christian Giddings.
Since joining the chorus in the fall, Giddings has been instrumental in leading the singers through virtual Zoom rehearsals as well as the challenging process of recording individual parts which have been combined to create the online concert experience.
According to CODA Chorus Board President Ruth Lund, “Singing in a chorus is as much about camaraderie as it is about the music. The members longed to stay together and rehearse despite the challenges of doing so virtually. The chorus is pleased that Giddings brought not only musical, but also technical expertise, so that he helped the chorus learn and adapt to rehearsing in a Zoom format. Singing in the chorus has brought joy to members and helped reduce isolation for singers staying safe at home. We look forward to sharing this joy with the community.”
The CODA Chorus is hoping to resume in-person rehearsals in September. The concert will be archived and available on demand via a YouTube link on CODA’s webpage, codachorus.com.
