Mar. 292021

FAIRFIELD — Kristin Wallaker, of New Portland, an electrical technology student at Kennebec Valley Community College, has been named a 2021 New Century Workforce Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship.
Only one New Century Workforce Scholar was selected from each state. New Century Workforce Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. More than 2,000 students were nominated from more than 1,200 college campuses across the country.
The scholarship is the first of its kind to support students at associate degree-granting institutions on a national scale as they plan to enter the workforce. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
“Kristin sets the bar when it comes to an instructor’s ideal student,” said Chuck Worster, KVCC Electrical Technology instructor. “Her work ethic and drive to understand the material being presented is unsurpassed. She not only excels with the academic portion of her education but also is more than capable to handle the hands-on segments as well.”
