SKOWHEGAN — Somerset SnowFest kicks off Feb. 21, with an ice fishing derby, cross-country ski meetup and scavenger hunt.
The outdoors event continues in Skowhegan, Madison and Canaan through Sunday, Feb. 28.
Coordinated by Main Street Skowhegan and Lake George Regional Park, Somerset SnowFest is a celebration of all things winter. Organizers point out that it’s more important than ever to stay active and get outside, so they are maximizing the areas’s outdoor spaces to ensure the safety of all participants while making it possible to host SnowFest during the pandemic. They ask that participants follow COVID guidelines by preregistering for all activities.
The week-long outdoor winter celebration features a range of activities, including kite-flying derby, downhill kayak race, winter biathlo, and the Northeast’s only equestrian skijoring competition. Other events are snowshow strolls, both during the day and at night; campfire cooking clinic, featuring pancakes; winter birding; kids box sled race; snow art; and winter nature craft, featuring bird feedrs.
