SWEDEN — Sweden Food Pantry has bought a new used van to replace the aging sometimes inadequate vehicles of the pantry’s volunteers.
The van purchase was made possible with a grant from Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine and a donation from the Sweden Community Church. The grant allowed purchase of a used van through Ripley and Fletcher in South Paris. Previously owned by a local camp, the vehicle was in excellent shape with only 50,000 miles.
Ripley and Fletcher owner Joe Galletta gave the pantry a great deal, pantry organizers said.
“Now we will be protected from the snow, rain, sleet and hail when picking up food and delivering produce to the pantry,” said Linda Bradley, director of the food pantry. “Muddy River Signs in Bridgton also gave us a great deal for their beautiful sign. A generous donor who is always there for us donated the cost of the insurance and registration.”
Sweden Food Pantry, in historic Sweden Community Church, 137 Bridgton Road, is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first and third Wednesday of the month and serves families from Sweden, Waterford, Fryeburg, Lovell, Stow, Stoneham and Bridgton. Neighbors helping neighbors, no one is turned away.
