Ira ‘Doc’ Kempf

AUBURN — Ira “Doc” A. Kempf, 75, of Hartford, passed away with his family by his side, Saturday, April 22, at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. He was born May 18, 1941 in Chicago, Ill., the son of John Kempf and Marie (Wells) Kempf. He graduated from Northview High School in Brazil, Ind.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1958 to 1961, during the Vietnam War. He married Sandra Lee on Sept. 19, 1981, in Peru; the couple made their home in Hartford, and she passed away Nov. 27, 2015.

He worked as a pipefitter for Local 716 in Augusta, retiring in 2001. Ira was a member of the American Legion Post 24 in Rumford and former member of Amvets Post 33 in Jay. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Ann Thies, and his grandson, Phillip Thies, both of Manheim, Germany; stepchildren, Linda Autrey and her companion, Donald Keene, of Jay; Colleen Child and husband Jeffrey of Leeds; and Troy Dickie and wife Sandra of Turner; six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister and his stepson, Alan Dickie.
