SOUTH PARIS — The Fashion Design program students at Oxford Hills Technical School will present this year’s body of work in a runway show Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School; admission is $4; under 12 and over 65, free.
“This has been a challenging year,” said Lori Millett, fashion design instructor. “The students’ work is looking quite good, despite the 10 snowstorms we had this year. That has put our work schedule behind, but the students are focused and determined to make the show work.”
The students and their models have started “walking practice.” The runway will be painted, and the setwork began during April vacation and continues for the next few weeks.
“The workroom is going to be very busy right up to showtime. In a room as small as ours, we have to spread out into the hallway and onto the landing. With garment construction and finishing touches, building set pieces, and lineup order all happening at the same time, it gets a little crazy. Everyone helps out, and it all comes together in the end,” stated Millett.
Each student must create four garments for the class, though some students have done more. They learn the construction process beginning with an easy project and build their skills through the year. The runway show is not only the highlight of the year for students but also part of their final grade.
