AUGUSTA — Anyone who wants to grab a pole can fish for free on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4, the Maine Department of Inland Fish and Wildlife’s free fishing days. Among the state’s best fishing spots, the Kennebec Valley Explorer suggests the Carrabassett River, which is “conveniently located near two major outdoors destinations, Sugarloaf Mountain and Rangeley Lake” and offers “many quiet, peaceful fishing spots.”
The Explorer also suggests China Lake, east of Augusta, and The Forks, in Somerset County. Free fishing days are open to everyone, with the exception of those whose fishing license license has been suspended or revoked. All other laws and regulations apply on these days.
