BETHEL — Issues affecting the Androscoggin River Watershed from Lake Umbagog to Merrymeeting Bay will be discussed at the 21st annual Androscoggin River Watershed Conference Thursday, May 4. The conference is open to the public and will be from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Bethel Inn and Resort in Bethel.
Topics will include the Roxbury Pond (Ellis Pond) watershed improvement project, river and stream stewardship, storm water and erosion control, fisheries management on the Maine section of the upper Androscoggin, climate change in Maine and a 2016 drought review, river use and development, and more.
The new interactive Androscoggin River Trail Guide will be officially unveiled at lunch.
Registration is $45 for the full day, including lunch and continental breakfast. Full-time student registration is $30. Organizers said the conference is of interest to anyone interested in the Androscoggin River, its watershed and improvements to the water, habit and communities, nonprofit organizations and other entities involved with the river, its watershed and communities; river guides and outfitters doing business on the river; government officials; representatives of the academic community at the middle, high school and college levels.
