FARMINGTON — The fourth annual Farmington Volunteer Earth Day Cleanup will be held Saturday April 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. Fred Barton’s baby pygmy goats again will be featured as Farmington’s favorite Earth Day “ambassadors,” as they were a big hit last year with the clean up volunteers. There also will be free popcorn to keep the volunteers going strong thanks to Farmington Public Works Director Phil Hutchins. Volunteers will be awarded seed packets, thanks to the generosity of Reny’s.
The UMF Sustainable Campus Coalition will have an educator present to teach anyone interested in learning about worm composting as well as to demonstrate an interactive watershed pollution display. This year, one new focus of the cleanup will be Whistle Stop Trail, in coordination with the towns of Jay and Wilton, who will have crews picking up their sections.
Volunteers can meet anytime from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pierce House lawn, next to the post office on Main Street. All ages are invited help. Come get bags and gloves, pet the baby goats, go pick up trash accumulated from winter and then come back for some popcorn and your seed packets. Lots of fun and a chance to help our environment!
