Oakland Public Library displays collection of local World War II clippings

OAKLAND — The Oakland Public Library has a new collection of World War II newspaper clippings.
The collection was assembled by Oakland native and veteran of World War II and Korea, Robert Coughlin, who served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for 30 years. He died in 2014.
The subjects of the clippings are articles and pictures of local men and women who went into combat during World War II. The collection in two binders amounts to 600 to 700 pages on both sides. All the clippings are dated and in sequence and taken from the Morning Sentinel. These are truly an extensive and exhausting piece of collecting, said Librarian Sarah Roy.
The collection will be on display in the reading room at the Oakland Public Library, 18 Church St.
