LEWISTON — The birthday wish of an employee of Healthy Androscoggin resulted in more than $600 raised for the organization. Mary Lou Hofmann, of Auburn, an administrative assistant for Lewiston-based non-profit asked for donations to the organization rather than birthday presents in March.
“I believe we get to the point in our lives that we don’t really need any more ‘things.’ Rather it is rewarding to be able to give a gift of gratitude to those organizations or causes you believe make the world or your community a better place to live,” she said. “Healthy Androscoggin certainly does that!”
Erin Guay, Healthy Androscoggin’s executive director said in a news release, “We are touched that Mary Lou used her birthday as an opportunity to honor the work Healthy Androscoggin does in Androscoggin County. This selfless act reflects the spirit of community and giving that Mary Lou shows every day.
“We are grateful we can use this funding to advance our mission of improving the health of Androscoggin County residents.”
