TURNER — Leavitt Institute’s class of 1960 held its 60th reunion on Saturday, July 25.
The class gathered at Young Farm, Buckfield, home of classmate Peter Young, and 19 guests attended, including 13 class members.
There was plenty of shade on the front yard of the farm which was a perfect place to social distance the lawn chairs. The social hour consisted of rekindling old friendships, storytelling and “catching up.” Peter gave a tour of the farm and his flower gardens and a brief history of the Young Farm.
The farm is on 200 acres of land and has a history dating back over 230 years, when Maine was part of Massachusetts. Peter’s “great, great,” Joshua Young, was given a parcel of land by the governor as a thank-you for military service. The land has stayed in the family for all these years.
After the tour, a picnic supper was enjoyed. A wonderful selection of desserts was provided by the host including cupcakes decorated in school colors, ice cream from a local creamery and blueberries provided by Rupert’s berry farm.
Each class member was asked to bring an item for an auction; this auction has been a tradition and the evening’s activity for every reunion held. The event was the class’s 11th gathering. Errol “Abe” Additon, class president, auctioned the unique items. Money from the auction paid reunion expenses and the remaining money was donated to the Turner Historical Museum, in the old Leavitt Institute Building, Turner Center.
