AUGUSTA — Paula Palmer, director of “Toward Right Relations” — a project of the Indigenous Peoples Concerns Committee of the Boulder Friends Meeting (Quaker) — will speak about Quaker Boarding Schools Tuesday, April 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Jewett Hall at the University of Maine Augusta.
This presentation is intended to increase understanding of what it means to be a “student of decolonization” in the context of a faith community and as people of faith. In 2015, Palmer began researching the Quaker Indian boarding schools to learn about the role her faith tradition played. She visited sites of Quaker boarding schools and delved into history collections to learn more.
In this slide presentation and ensuing discussion, Palmer will talk about what she learned and how she is sharing this at Friends’ meetings. Her presentation will provide learning about faith leaders committed to and actively engaged in the process of decolonizing.
