AUBURN — At t time when many teenagers are hoping to catch up on their sleep, those from Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish will trade rest for work by helping send love and thanks to a group of people who have meant so much to the church and community.

“During the Easter season, we pause to pray for and remember our loved ones and our parishioners,” said Deacon Denis Mailhot, the parish outreach coordinator at Immaculate Heart of Mary. “That includes those living in nursing homes, retirement communities, or assisted-living facilities who might be lonely and in need of warmth.”

Throughout Lent, Immaculate Heart of Mary parishioners donated bags of Hershey’s Kisses, hand lotion, tissues, lip balm and a variety of other toiletries to be included in gift bags. The bags will be delivered by the teens to residents and patients at Clover Health Care, the Odd Fellows’ and Rebekahs’ Home of Maine, and Bolster Heights Health Care Facility.

“I was humbled by the large number of donated items and financial assistance from our parishioners and friends,” said Deacon Denis. “It’s enough to fill 200 Easter gift bags!”

Each gift bag includes an Easter greeting message from members of the parish’s pastoral staff to provide a sense of connection to each of the recipients.”We wish every resident, caregiver and staff member at our Auburn nursing home facilities a blessed and happy Easter, filled with the mercy, love and faith that Jesus gives each of us,” said Deacon Denis.
