AUBURN — L/A Arts is sponsoring three upcoming events as part of its “Place for Makers” discussion and networking series.
The Auburn-based factory of acclaimed furniture maker Thomas Moser, 72 Wright’s Landing Road, is the site for a discussion Wednesday, April 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the value of artisan products, skilled labor, selling a brand and keeping Lewiston-Auburn as a home base for production.
Ben Waxman, co-founder of American Roots, a textile company striving “to make the highest quality Polartec fleece into the best American made apparel,” will give a presentation at MUNKA — Lewiston-Auburn’s newest co-working space — about how American Roots has partnered with the “New Mainer” community and education resources to build a skilled workforce and grow a burgeoning textile company. MUNKA, which means “work” in Hungarian, is a co-working space at 213 Lisbon St. in Lewiston. MUNKA is intended to inspire productivity, encourage collaboration and build community. That presentation is slated from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.
Chad Leeder, innovation specialist at L.L.Bean in Freeport, will discuss “innovation in Maine and the process of adapting to changing markets” Wednesday, May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rinck Advertising, 113 Lisbon St, Lewiston.
The Place for Makers series focuses on introducing a new generation of artisan-makers to Lewiston, Auburn and surrounding communities. With support from the National Endowment for the Arts’ “Our Town” grant and in collaboration with Maine College of Art, Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council and Pratt Institute, L/A Arts is launching a series of networking and professional development sessions gathering artisans from around the state at key locations to show off the resources, creative talent, potential live/work space and business support services available.
