WATERVILLE — The Alfond Youth & Community Center is still serving 1,000 evening meals and snacks at six locations throughout the community every Monday through Friday, with weekend backpacks available at the AYCC location in Waterville every Thursday and Friday.
Now, thanks to the generosity of Colby College and the hard work of its amazing kitchen crew, meals will be handed out on Saturdays and Sundays as well.
Weekend meals will be available in the AYCC parking lot from Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 2 p.m.
Additionally, the center is holding a continuous bottle drive to benefit youngsters participating in sports. Every container dropped off in the parking lot’s big red storage unit — courtesy of Eagle Rental — helps a youth in need join a sports team.
As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, and cease in revenue, the sports scholarship programs are suffering. The center is asking for help to prepare for its re-opening with the ability to continue providing athletics scholarships to youth in need.
