WATERVILLE — With more than half of Maine’s eligible population vaccinated, Northern Light Inland Hospital is shifting its approach to ensure that those who have not had the opportunity to be vaccinated can do so.
While the health care system has offered pop-up clinics in underserved communities and has been providing personal vaccinations to our homebound community members, it’s looking to expand vaccination opportunities for those who couldn’t travel to its larger vaccination sites.
Starting on Monday, May 17, Northern Light Walk-In Care, at 174 Kennedy Memorial Drive, began offering walk-in Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., seven days a week, for anyone 18 and older. Those getting a vaccination don’t have to be a Northern Light patient, and no appointment is necessary.
Northern Light’s large-scale vaccination clinic at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield will begin tapering hours and days in the coming weeks, with a tentative final day of operation on Friday, June 4, based on demand.
The hospital thanked Kennebec Valley Community College, all its volunteers and the community for making COVID-19 vaccinations a success. “This has been a team effort for the health of our communities,” the hospital said in a news release.
