Teens to Trails reminds kids to get outside

Apr. 122020

BRUNSWICK — Teens to Trails is reminding parents and kids that Maine’s stay-at-home order does not mean stay indoors — Gov. Janet Mills is encouraging outdoor exercise.
Time in nature helps with concentration (good for teens and parents working at home). And mounting research shows that spending time in nature — even just 20 minutes a day — can lower stress hormone levels and improve your sense of well-being.
Tere are great benefits to stepping into the backwoods, your backyard or even just onto the back stoop.
“But kids can’t benefit from the outdoors if they can’t get outside,” the organization’s officials said in a news release. “Recent news stories have made us aware of the disparity in internet and technology access, but its equally important to improve access to the outdoors across all socioeconomic groups. Our work with schools, state agencies and public health advocates across Maine helps to equalize who gets to learn and grow outdoors. Teens to Trails connects kids to experiences that break down social barriers and build lifelong habits of wellness.”
Teens to trails encourages everyone to spend time outdoors every day, and encourage your friends and family to get outside too – safely.
If you’re cleaning your closets, Teens To Trails re-distributes lightly used and new outdoor gear to Outing Clubs throughout Maine.
