LEWISTON — From rattles for infants to books and DVDs for teenagers, the pile of toys continues to grow at Saint Dominic Academy’s Lewiston campus, thanks to the kindness and commitment of the school’s 6th-grade class. The students are conducting a Lenten toy drive to provide comfort and warmth to patients at Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland.
“Last year was the first year we held the drive, and it was a wonderful success,” said Jennifer Poliquin, a sixth-grade teacher at the academy. “We couldn’t wait to do the same service project this year. We receive so much support from school families and the wider community. The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston/Auburn has already donated 60 teddy bears!”
The sixth graders provided a list of toys the hospital would like to all interested in participating. Donations can be dropped off during school hours at the academy’s Lewiston campus located on 17 Baird Ave. The collection will run through April 13.
