Belgrade Historcal Society gets grant for bicentennial programing

BELGRADE — The Belgrade Historical Society has been awarded a $3,500 grant by the Maine 200 Bicentennial Commission to support programming that celebrates the 200th anniversary of Maine statehood.
The BHS will work with 7 Lakes Alliance to provide the programming this summer. The focus will be on history and conservation. Programs booked to date are:
* May 28 — “The History of the Maine Chance Farm” (now the Travis Mills Foundation retreat), presented by Lisa Walker of the University of Maine at Augusta.
* July 30 — “Preserving Vacationland,” presented by Scott Andrews of University of Southern Maine Senior College.
* Aug. 13 — “Belgrade Bygone Days,” digitized films from the 1930s and ’40s of old-time Belgrade and Belgrade Lakes.
The programs will be hosted at the Maine Lake Resource Center, headquarters of the 7 Lakes Alliance, 137 Main St. in Belgrade Lakes. Other planned programs will feature the natural history of Belgrade and Belgrade’s early farms.
