TURNER — The Turner Public Library recently held its first Stuffed Animal Sleepover where 18 fun-loving stuffed animals spent the night at the library. Young patrons brought their stuffed friends to the library, decorated a box bed, picked a blanket, and then gave the library staff and volunteers important information regarding their stuffed animal. Library staff created identifying pins which made sure that all the stuffed animals would be reunited with their special beds in time for lights out.
After the library closed at 6 p.m., the animal antics began with the stuffed friends playing video games, racing wheeled chairs, roasting marshmallows, and raiding the library refrigerator for snacks. Fortunately, the library staff and volunteers were able to keep the stuffed animals from causing too much trouble, and while they were caught before they could take control of the elevator, they did manage to photocopy their faces. Photos of the sleepover activities were posted online for all to see in real time.
The next day, the owners were able to enjoy a breakfast of scrambled eggs, muffins, fruit kabobs, yogurt parfaits and other delicious foods with their stuffed animal friends. Jennifer Talbot led Story Hour participants in a song, read stories and helped children write their own books about their stuffed animals. The library intends to hold another sleepover for stuffed animals later in the year.
