RANGELEY — The town’s change from town meeting to secret ballot this year means that voters who want to have input on warrant articles will get the chance an April 24 meeing.
The change also means that in the weeks leading up to June 13’s vote, absentee ballots will be available for those who can’t make it to the polls that day.
Voters are encouraged to attend the April 24 meeting on selectmen’s proposed warrant articles, Town Clerk Tricia Roy said in a news release. “This is when you, the voters, get the chance to voice your opinions publicly and possibly influence the selectmen on their budget and referendum warrant articles,” she said.
The meeting is 6 p.m., Monday, April 24, in the Rangeley Lakes Regional School gym. The meeting will be open town meeting style, and have a moderator to keep things moving, but no votes will be taken, Roy said.
The selectmen and Budget Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, in the Town Office to review and make any final changes or recommendations to the warrant. The final warrant must be received in the town clerk’s office by Friday, April 28, so the ballot can be prepared.
In a change from previous years, absentee ballots will be available beginning May 15, so voters who can’t make it to the polls on June 13 can vote. The ballots will be available up until the election.
There will be a public hearing at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, at the RLRS gym to review all final articles. Information will be given to residents on the final warrant articles, and voting by secret ballot will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, at the Town Office.
