WINTHROP — The Kennebec Land Trust and Winthrop Adult Education are sponsoring a session on the trust’s plans for a conservation burial ground.
Theresa Kerchner, executive director, will present an introduction to conservation burial. Staff at Knowlton, Hewins Roberts will also answer questions about the importance of planning ahead for conservation burial and KHR’s partnership with KLT.
The land trust will soon be opening our region’s first conservation burial ground, on Baldwin Hill in Fayette. Conservation burial grounds offer ecologically sound burial practices that protect the environment and human health. This model also goes beyond “green cemeteries,” or similar designations, by permanently protecting a larger tract of open space.
The class is for all who are interested in this growing movement or the land trust’s project. Bring your curiosity and questions.
The class is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Winthrop High School. Register with Winthrop Adult Education directly. A fee of $10, pre-registration, is required.
