Ribbon cutting at Tree Street Youth’s newly renovated, expanded space to be held April 12

LEWISTON – From 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at Tree Street Youth, 144 Howe Street, Lewiston, as they unveil their newly renovated and expanded space, the Geiger Center for Leadership and Learning.

The event marks the completion of a five-month long construction project with Harriman Architects and Hebert Construction. Doubling both indoor and outdoor areas, Tree Street Youth raised an impressive $1,521,353 for the project through gifts from over 350 different individuals, businesses, and foundations. Tree Street is grateful for the widespread community support.

Highlights of the renovated area include the creation of two age specific outdoor recreation spaces and a large multi-purpose room that will function interchangeably as a performing arts center, gymnasium, and assembly room. The renovated space also provides new classrooms for middle and high-school age programs and an improved college/career aspirations center (BRANCHES).

Tree Street Youth is a key part of the downtown neighborhood stabilization and revitalization efforts. It is not just contributing to area youth and a more stable investment environment downtown but to a broader sense of community well being in one of only two centers of population growth in Maine. The youth served are the key to Maine’s future.
