‘Holy Mother, Holy Child’ theme of Dec. 18 candlelight vespers service in Raymond

RAYMOND — The annual Advent Candlelight Vespers service at Raymond Village Community Church will focus on the story of the young mother Mary and her infant son. ‘Holy Mother, Holy Child’ is the theme of the service to be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the church, 27 Main St., in Raymond Village.
The choir will be singing lullabies as well as ancient and modern songs and hymns celebrating that most special of relationships. All will sing “Silent Night” by candlelight — described as perhaps the most beautiful lullaby of all. Readings during the service will complement the music.
“Advent Vespers is a quiet time to remember the real meaning of the season, so often lost in the hustle and bustle of today’s commercial Christmas,” said RVCC’s pastor, the Rev. Nancy Foran. “Each year we try to tell the old story in a new way. This year’s theme makes it especially human and real.”
If anyone needs some quiet time, is burdened by loss, regret or stress, or if the holidays this year are just not all they are cracked up to be, then be good to yourself and be part of the Advent Vespers Service, Foran urged, adding that the service will be a brief time to find healing, wholeness and maybe even yourself this holiday season.
