AUBURN – The city recently announced the newly refurbished Auburn Senior Community Center will be unveiled at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2., 48 Pettengill Park Road.
The ceremony will commemorate the grand re-opening of the center, part of Auburn Recreation Department’s campus in Pettengill Park. All are welcome to attend; light refreshments will be served.
“This beautiful venue will be a resource for residents of all ages,” said Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque. “We are proud to have created one of the largest, most advanced senior centers in Maine.”
The newly-renovated center features comfortable meeting space for up to 300 and an industrial kitchen, as well as wireless internet and other technology. “ASCC will involve and impact a diverse variety of community groups and city committees, whose primary focus is health, wellness and overall well-being for Auburn’s 50-and-over population,” said Sabrina Best, recreation director. “The ability to offer a space that can accommodate free community meals and prgrams that emphasize nutritious and well-balanced food intake, is essential to making this center and our mission successful.”
Levesque noted the center “will be a warm, welcoming place at the heart of our age-friendly community that will focus on bringing all our rich generations together,” said Levesque.
The project was made possible through generous funding provided by Housing and Urban Development through the city’s Community Development Office and the city of Auburn.
