Auburn Public Library teen programs for April set

AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library is offering a variety of teen programs for the month of April.

Tweens in the Teen Space will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesdays, April 5, 12 and 26. Sixth graders are invited to come to the Teen Space on the second floor on half-day Wednesdays for craft and board games, or to simply hang out or get a head start on homework.

The Teen Anime Club will meet from 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens ages 12-18, can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch the week’s selection of anime and try their hand at drawing their own characters. The program was made possible by a gift from the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Snacks will be provided.

Homework help is available form 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 6, 13, 20 and 27, in Study Room 223. This program is for ages 12-18.

Teens! Friday at the Movies, takes place 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, April 7, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Since April includes Earth Day on April 22, teens will choose between Hoot or Wall-E. Friday at the movies is the first Friday of every month, and is for ages 12 to 18. It includes a snack.
Teens! Snack Chat! is 3 to 4 p.m., Monday, April 10, in the Teen Space. Enjoy a healthy after-school snack and engage in enlightening conversation about current events. The program is provided by support from Jim Pittman of Jim’s Auto Sales and is for those ages 12 to 18.

Teens! Gaming Hour is 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, and 3 to 4 p.m., Friday, April 28, in the Androscoggin Room and features video games, including XBox and Wii, and snacks. For ages 12-18. This program was made possible by a gift from the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and the law offices of Norman, Hanson & DeTroy.

Author Visit: Maria Padian, 3 to 4 p.m., Thursday, April 13, in the Teen Space. As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Maine author Padian will read an excerpt from her newest book, “Wrecked,” and lead a discussion about issues of consent in relationships. Also joining the discussion will be community educators Whitney Parrish from Safe Voices and Hannah Johnson from Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services. This program is for ages 13 to 21.

Great Stories Club: Structures of Suffering, will meet 4:30 to 6 p.m., Friday, April 14, in the Teen Space. Discussion will be about the first part of the book, “Thirteen Reasons Why” (through page 148) and how perceptions vary by person.

Also, teens and new adults who have taken part in a life-changing experience that gave them skills to succeed in today’s job market, and it didn’t cost anything, are being sought by the Maine Job Corps. Contact Hanya Phillips of the Maine Job Corps (207-450-0216) to find out more about this program and who is eligible. She will then arrange a mutually convenient time to meet at the library.
