Canton Lake Days Raft Race winners announced

CANTON — The second annual Raft Race, sponsored by the Lake Anasagunticook Association was held Aug. 17 at Canton Beach.
Despite dark skies and somewhat rough waters, four rafts entered the race and six $25 prizes were awarded to the participants. About 40 spectators watched the race from the beach.
The MC for the Raft Race was LAA President Tim Kirwan. The judges were Canton Selectman Carole Robbins and Hartford Selectman Lee Holman. The registrar was Loretta Blancato and the pilot of the safety boat was Mike McCluskey. The rafts, their passengers, and the prizes won were:
Pirates of Lighthouse View Lane – Captain: Diane Lavoie. Crew: Michelle Knapp, Joseph Knapp, and Jaziah Lavoie. Prize: Fastest; Most Passengers; and Best in Show
Looney Chicks – Captain: Margaret Taylor. Crew: Cyndi Phillips. Prize: Funniest
Redneck Raft – Captain: Steven Elsman, Jr. Crew: Lance Neal. Prize: Most Likely to Sink
SS Minnow – Captain: Caroline Rothrock. Crew: Everett Tenney. Prize: Most Creative
The Raft Race was part of the LAA’s Lake Days celebration that was open to the public and included a blindfold canoe race, raffle prizes, and free ice cream for all attendees.
The Lake Anasagunticook Association is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that works in partnership with the lakefront property owners, residents of Canton and Hartford, and other interested parties to preserve the water quality of the lake, sustain its aesthetic appeal, and provide recreational opportunities.
