NASHUA, N.H. — The Northern New England Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will host the nationally branded fundraising campaign, CF Cycle for Life. With more than 40 rides across the country, thousands of participants will take part in the one-day cycling events, raising money and awareness.
The Northern New England ride will be July 13 in New Hampshire and Maine.
“Every cyclist who joins us makes a difference in the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis,” said Kathy Hladik grandmother of a CF patient “When the foundation was founded in 1955, children with CF typically did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, people in our community are living long enough to achieve milestones like graduating from high school and getting married. We have made tremendous progress, but too many people are still losing their fight with CF too soon. We still have a long way to go until we reach our goal of a cure for everyone with this terrible disease.”
In 2019, CF Cycle for Life aims to raise $4 million nationwide to help support important CF research, education, and patient care. Money raised through the annual event has advanced progress in the search for a cure for CF. The foundation is recognized nationally and around the world for its efforts, having helped discover the gene that causes CF, created a state-of-the-art care model, and funded groundbreaking research.
Nearly every drug to treat CF that is available today was made possible because of the foundation’s support. But the CF Foundation will not stop until there is a cure for all people who have cystic fibrosis.
The Northern New England Cycle for Life kicks off on July 13 from Shapleigh Middle School in Kittery, Maine. Riders can choose from 100, 65 or 30 miles.
