FARMINGTON — “Storyfest,” a program at the University of Maine at Farmington, will presents “What Good Is Story? Telling Tales in Uncertain Times” Wed., April 12. Originally scheduled for March 15 but postponed because of bad weather, the event is slated for 7:15-8 p.m. in the Roberts Building, Room 023.
Stories — folktales, legends, personal stories and more — often contain unsuspected depths and powers. Folklorists and storytellers Jo Radner of Lovell and Peggy Yocom of Farmington will discuss with audience members how stories work on multiple levels, how human brains are wired to think in story form, and how knowing about story and storytelling practices can serve us now — especially as charges of “fake news” fly back and forth daily.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
