AUBURN — A Catholic Charities program designed to help keep elderly clients in their homes longer is seeking volunteers to help support clients, as well as donations of yarn for knitted products that are given to those in need.
The SEARCH program (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope), matches elderly clients with volunteers who make telephone reassurance calls, home visits and assist them with errands and provide transportation.
“We have many seniors in Androscoggin County that are waiting for volunteers to become a friendly companion with them and provide transportation support so they can get out into their community,” said Wendy Russell, program director, in a news release. “If you are interested in volunteering with the elderly, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us.”
The program also needs 4-ply yarn of all colors, in good condition, to support volunteers who knit hats, mittens, baby items and afghans, which are given to the needy of all ages.
Those who want to donate yarn or volunteer can call 784-0157.
