Sampson airmen monthly meeting is June 13 in Lewiston

LEWISTON — There will be a gathering of airmen who completed basic training at Sampson AFB in New York state beginning at non on Thursday, June 13, at Governor’s Restaurant, 1185 Lisbon St.
Sampson was first a U.S. Navy training center from 1942 to 1945, then an Air Force basic training facility from 1950 to 1956 during the Korean confict. It is now the site of a state park and museum.
Although those belonging to this group were initially the Down East Squadron, the name has been changed to the Southern Maine Squadron. These veterans hail from the four southern counties in Maine — Androscoggin, Cumberland, Oxford and York. Meetings are held the second Thursday of the month May through October. Informal gatherings continue during the winter months. All veterans and their guests are welcome to attend.
