LEWISTON — The L & A Veterans Council will be holding its annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony Sat., May 27. The parade will form at Kennedy Park 8:30 a.m. and will step off at 9:30 a.m. The Council is seeking one interested in participating — musical units, honor or color guards, marching units, antique cars, military units or vehicles, military cadets, boy and girl scout troops, fraternal organizations, cars, vans and trucks representing different clubs, with identification on each side so the public will know who they are, as well as police, sheriff and fire departments.

Following the parade, the organization will hold its traditional Memorial Day Ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Main St in Lewiston. The program will include unveiling 29th stone with 216 name inscribed. The unveiling will be done by a four-star retired general. The Council is also asking chaplains of all Veterans Posts to attend to name the members each post has lost during the past year. A new, polished granite bench also will be revealed.
The member organization of L & A Veterans Council are: American Legion, Post 22 of Lewiston; Post 135 of Sabattus; Post 153 of Auburn; Amvets Post 6 & Auxiliary of New Gloucester; Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11; Franco American Veterans Post 31 of Lewiston; Marine Corps League of Central Maine; Military Order of the Purple Heart; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1603 of Auburn and Post 9150 of Lewiston. The New Officers of the Council are Chairman Jerry Dewitt; Co Chairman Norm Cote; Secretary Helen Taylor; Treasurer Cecile Burgoyne; and Advisor Bert Dutil.
