TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult Education has announced that Melanie North, ABE Coordinator, has been awarded a national grant to attend the Coalition on Adult Basic Education National Conference this April in Orlando, Fl. North has been an educator for more than 15 years, is certified to teach English Language Arts (grades 7-12), General Elementary (grades K-8) and Adult Education (grades 12+). She has completed the Global Career Development Facilitator Training and is working toward completion of her WorkReady Facilitator certification.
In her fourth year as an instructor with MSAD 52 Adult Education Program, North has been instrumental in teaching students English/Language Arts, coordinating Adult Basic Education, and supporting ESL Language Acquisition Programs.
As the only Maine recipient for this award, North plans to bring back new and exciting ideas, innovative practices and relevant materials to share with other adult education practitioners in the state through staff development meetings and a presentation at the statewide Maine Adult Education Association conference next year.
COABE is organized to advance national and international adult education and literacy opportunities for all persons, promote adult education and literacy programs, and to provide leadership in advancing the education of adults by unifying the Adult Education profession. This includes Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Family Literacy, Skills Development, Workforce Development, and other state, federal and private programs which assist under-educated and/or disadvantaged adults to function effectively.
