AUGUSTA – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine is inviting local businesses, organizations and individuals to sign up to Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2017, which raises money for mentoring programs in the Kennebec valley and beyond, including parts of Oxford, Androscoggin and Franklin counties.
The local bowling events will take place May 1-6 in Skowhegan, Augusta and Hallowell.
The event is the largest in the state by Big Brothers Big Sisters, paying for half of the budget that covers seven counties, throughout the Mid-Coast, eastern and central Maine, Special Events Manager Monica Charette said in a news release. Last year’s Kennebec Valley event raised more than $100,000 for local community-based and school-based programs in Kennebec and Somerset counties, Charette said.
She said that every match the agency creates and professionally supports costs about $1,000 annually. “Funds raised at Bowl for Kids’ Sake play a significant role in supporting matches between high school students and their Littles in our school-based programs, and supports strong and enduring relationships between community Bigs and their Littles.”
Last year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine served more than 700 youth. Charette said their goal is to raise $80,000 to help change the lives of over 100 local kids in Kennebec Valley this year through successful 1-to-1 mentoring programs.
Businesses and individuals can register a team online at bbbsmidmaine.org, select a bowling date and time and create personal fundraising pages where supporters can make electronic donations. Bowlers can also download pledge forms to collect donations to bring to the event. Teams that raise $500 or more will receive “Go Big or Go Home” T-shirts at the event. Individuals who raise $100 or more are entered into a grand prize drawing. Recognizing supporters as heroes, this year’s theme is “Super Heroes” and teams are invited to dress in super hero costumes. There will be hourly bowling prizes awarded and a special recognition event for high fundraisers.
Local businesses can support Bowl for Kids’ Sake by becoming lane sponsors, donating prizes and registering teams to participate. Volunteers are also welcome. For more information, call Monica Charette at 314-6996 or email monica@bbbsmidmaine.org.
