TURNER — When she was just a baby, Kyra Widdecombe of Turner was admitted to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital after a bad fall. This year, as her eighth birthday approached, she asked friends and family to donate to the hospital that made her recovery possible in lieu of personal gifts.
“She’s often trying to help other children,” says Kyra’s mother Naomi. “She’s excited to help other kids.” In addition to monetary donations for BBCH, Kyra also collected toy donations for patients at the children’s hospital. In all, she was able to raise a $684. Her generosity and compassion will support the thousands of children cared for at BBCH each year.
Kyra’s birthday is March 18, and she ustilized the My Miracle Birthday website platform to collect donations. The website allows the birthday donor to personalize their fundraising page and share with friends and family via email or social media. Every dollar she raised in support of the children being treated at BBCH will be doubled, thanks to matching gift commitments from Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution and P&C Insurance.
“Every dollar makes a difference, and we are happy to partner with BBCH and others to assist in making these wishes come true,” said Bob Quentin, president and CEO of Saco & Biddeford Savings. “We hope our support encourages others to join in.”
Donations to The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital through the My Miracle Birthday program enhance the care provided at Maine’s only children’s hospital through the purchase of pediatric medical equipment and by providing financial support for specialized programs.
