UMA Student Art Exhibition runs through April 24

AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta Student Art Exhibition has oopened at the Charles Danforth Gallery, Jewett Hall.
There will be an awards ceremony from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at which students will discuss their work and awards will be given. The exhibition will also include a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 14.

Open to both art majors and those who aren’t, students submit work from art classes throughout the year. The artwork spans a variety of media including ceramics, design, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture and video.
The exhibition began March 29 and runs through Wednesday, April 24. It is open to the public during gallery hours, which are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 .m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
This year’s juror is Andres A. Verzosa, who is the executive director of the Stanley-Whitman House, an early American living history center and museum in Farmington, Conn. Previously, he was interim dxecutive director and curator of the Ogunquit Museum of American Art and director of Aucocisco Galleries in Portland, one of the leading commercial art galleries in the state.
The UMA Art Program offers a bachelor’s degree in studio art with courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, design, printmaking, electronic arts and photography. Because of the diversity of art courses offered, this exhibition affords students with the opportunity to see and learn from their peers as well as highlight the UMA Art Program to the campus community, central Maine community, and to the students’ family and friends.
