AUBURN — Sponsored by Advocates for Children, Marvel Comic’s Spider-Man will visit Norway Savings Bank Arena April 20 to support National Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention Month with a fun and educational event.
Super Hero Saturday with Spider-Man will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is designed to raise awareness about and celebrate the community’s efforts toward child abuse prevention. It also generates funds for family support programs throughout the year. Spider-Man will be presenting a bullying prevention message and recruiting new “Junior Super Heroes” – real-life heroes such as local police officers, firemen and teachers, who will participate in engaging activities and games with the children. They will tell kids about their “super power” and how it helps to keep our communities safe, healthy and thriving.
Kids can dress as their favorite super hero, meet Spider-Man, ice skate and participate in a scavenger hunt for a chance to win prizes. Admission for everyone over the age of one is $8 at the door. All proceeds benefit the prevention and education programs of Advocates For Children.
The agency will also be raising awareness about National Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention Month, promoted by the group Prevent Child Abuse America, by planting pinwheels on Main Street in Lewiston throughout April. Baskets of whoopie pies and pinwheels are also delivered throughout the month to area organizations in appreciation of their support of child abuse/neglect prevention.
Located in Lewiston, Advocates For Children is a program of Community Concepts that offers resources and support in an effort to strengthen families in Androscoggin County.
