TURNER — Turner Public Library’s eighth annual Spring Seminar in Gardening will take place Sunday, April 13, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Community Room of the Leavitt Institute building.
Doors will open by 8:30 a.m. with free coffee and Ricker Hill donuts as well as sign-up for door prizes donated by Turner businesses.
The first program is “Beginning with Bees” with Roland Lajoie. The North Turner beekeeper will cover — through slides and demonstrations — the basic topics of setting up a hive, maintaining a healthy colony, and harvesting the honey. He will be joined by Ray Gagne, who lives in Greene and learned beekeeping from Lajoie. Gagne has gone on to start his own honey business. Both of these presenters are active members in state and regional beekeeping associations and have decades of experience and knowledge to share.
The second presenter is Kristin Perry, a horticulturalist for 19 years at McLaughlin Gardens in South Paris. Perry’s topic is “Flowering Shrubs: Creating Forage for Pollinators.” This will provide an introduction to creating a successful pollinator habitat with illustrations of the best native shrubs to use in your landscape.
Those who attend should plan to bring gardening questions and knowledge to share with other gardeners.
