WEST KENNEBUNK — The Animal Welfare Society/Cleo Fund is offering low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for cats belonging to income-qualified residents of Oxford County, the organization announced. Cats will be spayed or neutered, have a wellness exam and receive a rabies vaccine for a $20 copay for a limited time, according to a news release from the organization. The reduced fee is the result of a grant from the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation.
Marie O’Brien, AWS/Cleo fund coordinator, said in the release, “We are grateful to the Sewall Foundation for their generous support of our work. Spaying or neutering is one of the most important things a pet owner can do for their pet. It reduces or eliminates a number of bothersome behaviors. Male cats that are neutered are less likely to spray, roam or fight. Female cats that are spayed do not go in and out of heat and don’t produce unwanted litters. Cats that have been fixed live longer, healther, happier lives.”
Oxford County residents who would like to particpate can call the AWS/Cleo Fund at 773-6221 to see if they qualify and to schedule an appointment at a participating veterinary clinic in their area.
