Turner Public Library hosts teen craft night, author Heinrich

TURNER — Turner Public Library has scheduled some late-winter events for both teens and nature enthusiasts.
A free school vacation teen craft night will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, at the library.

Teens from seven through 12th grade may try a variety of crafts, including metal stamping, sewing, weaving, knitting, beading, paper crafts, spinning and button making. Equipment and supplies will be on hand, and teens are welcome to bring additional supplies to customize their creations. The library has a variety of crafting equipment for patrons to borrow, and many activities to try in the library.
Author Bernd Heinrich will speak at the library at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9. Heinrich’s books include “Winter World,” “Mind of the Raven,” “A Year in the Woods,” “One Wild Bird at a Time” and “A Naturalist at Large.” Heinrich is professor emeritus of biology at the University of Vermont, distinguished by his research work in the comparative physiology and behavior of insects. His many years of research on ravens has culminated in papers on raven behavior and two books that put the research into a broad context.
He has also won numerous long distance running events, and set a number of open U.S. ultramarathon and masters (age 40 and over) records throughout the 1980s.
